It is wrong and foolish for a gun-owner to say, when facing gun-control laws, 'You can't do that. The 2nd amendment gives me the right to keep and bear arms!' This is a mistake. The 2nd amendment is better than that.
The 2nd amendment does NOT give us this right, but merely recognizes it and intends to keep FEDERAL LAWS from infringing on that right. So, all federal gun-control laws are unconstitutional, yet the right exists through natural law and the law of self-defense. Otherwise, we are at the mercy of any weird court interpretation; and, we are admitting that our rights come not from God, but from the Constitution ... a dangerous premise.
Any argument over militia, a collective right to bear arms, states' rights, a national guard, etc. clutters the understanding of the Constitution.
This is why each state has duplicated the mis-named 'Bill of Rights' ... not because there is safety in redundancy, but because people want not only the federal but their STATE governments not to mess with their guns, speech, religion, press, etc.
We have been misled for too long about what it means to be truly free. In this campaign, I ask Alaskans to join me in fighting for freedom . . . not hoping for more pork-barrel projects.
