Gun Owners of America rate Bob Bird an "A", Ted Stevens a "C" and Mark Begich a "D". See it now at www.goapvf.org/vgak08.htm
Bob Bird has received an "A" on the Gun Owners of America Congressional report card. Watch Bob's video at the bottom the Home Page to see why!

BOB BIRD IS PRO-LIFE AND PRO-FAMILY.
Do not be confused by any pro-family "report-card" that poorly understands the issues on a political level. Go to the websites of these report cards and download what Bob has written. Bob wants the STATES and NOT the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to protect human life.
- The passing of a federal law is far more difficult than a state law. Constitutional amendments are even more difficult. We can't wait for an amendment to the Constitution any more. The abortion of 50 million babies and 35 years is enough.
- We must never admit that the federal courts have the right to interfere with state laws on social issues.
- The federal courts have always been the enemy of the family.
- God instituted marriage, not governments. We must never admit that marriage can be defined or refined by government, for it would one day ignore or reinterpret marriage definitions.
- We cannot turn the federal government into a friend of the prolife movement, but we know that many states already are. This is where we need parental-consent and ultra-sound issues.
- The "faith-based initiative" subsidy is a trap that will place churches under federal dependency and control.
Bob Bird has been president of Alaska Right to Life. He has picketed hundreds and hundreds of times for over 25 years in front of abortion clinics. He organized and led Operation Rescue in the 1980s. Prolife and pro-family groups would have no greater friend than Bob Bird in the U.S Senate.

RON PAUL ENDORSES BOB BIRD FOR U.S. SENATE
Subject: Please support Bob Bird for Senate
Dear Friend:
As I'm sure you know, Senator Ted Stevens was this week found guilty of corruption. With national Republicans, including John McCain and Sarah Palin, calling for Steven's resignation, his re-election bid appears lost. However, defenders of Liberty like you and I cannot sit idly by and allow big government liberal and Harry Reid disciple Mark Begich to waltz right into the Senate for the next six years.
That is why I am endorsing Bob Bird for US Senate. Bob is a true warrior in the fight against big government. If elected, he has committed to caucus with the GOP, yet would retain the independence and integrity Alaskans expect and deserve.
The hour is growing late, and time is short. Will you help Bob Bird with your generous online contribution of $250, $100, $50 or even the legal maximum of $2,300? http://www.birdforsenate.com/contribute.html
Bob also needs all the volunteer support and energy you, your friends and family might provide. To pitch in, please contact him at http://www.birdforsenate.com/contribute.html.
You have stood with me as I campaigned for the Presidency to return our federal government to its proper role. Will you help me bring a reliable ally to Washington?
Many thanks for all you have done.
In Liberty,
Ron Paul

 Bob Bird Press Release
Subject: Stevens Conviction
As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, I have been only minimally concerned with personal corruption. The corruption of the Constitution is a far more serious problem, for it has led to trillions of dollars stolen from the taxpayer, not hundreds of thousands.
I have labored in the wilderness for seven months, and been largely ignored. It is my hope that the mainstream media of Alaska will understand now that this is going to be a race between Mark Begich and Bob Bird, not Ted Stevens.
I offer a consistent and coherent message. Whether or not people agree with it, they have a right to hear it. I ask that the people of Alaska turn towards freedom, not the continued corruption of the Constitution that both "major" parties endlessly promote.

BOB ASKS MARK A TOUGH QUESTION Bob asked Mark Begich if he was Catholic and how that squares with the public announcement by the pope and Catholic bishops about politicians who advocate abortion rights. They were told that such politicians should not present themselves for communion. Bob wanted to know if Mark was Catholic and if he would follow the guidelines.
At the Kenai-Soldotna debates October 21, the format permitted candidates to ask each other a question. Bob proceeded to ask Mark Begich a question that has generated much controversy, certainly on the national stage, and perhaps a little bit locally now.
Let us preface this story with telling our supporters something they already know: that Mark, as a liberal Democrat, is treated to a courtier and subservient press, which will ignore or minimize any mistakes and maximize any opponents'. KTUU followed Mr. Begich down to the Kenai Peninsula and gave him a free commercial of favorable news in numerous segments aired over a day or two's time.
Bob Bird, on the other hand, was ignored by KTUU except for this question. While Bob gave a 5 minute interview to KTUU, to our knowledge it was never aired. Does this seem strange? No, it is routine and expected.
And, as you might guess, the KTUU website that explores this issue has cropped many of the remarks by Bob that were posed both before and after the question.
Now, let's get into it.
Mark Begich's support for legal abortion, and its subsidization by the taxpayer's, is an unbroken and consistent record. This means that he wants federal funding to overturn the so-called 'Hyde Amendment' which ended federal abortion funding over 30 years ago.
It means that Mark has enjoyed the endorsement of NARRAL (the National Abortion Rights and Reproductive Action League, the trade-guild of abortionists) and Planned Parenthood, the world's #1 promoter and performer of abortion. Of the roughly 50 million abortions in the U.S. since 1973, PP has performed about 4% of them. It has its name on much litigation that seeks to curtail the unconstitutional court action called Roe v Wade.
Now, let's enter the Catholic Church here. It has called abortion 'an unspeakable crime' and the most important issue of the times. Not just this year, but every year. It has done so for 2,000 years. Because so many Catholic politicians openly support not only abortion rights, but also its subsidization, it creates a great deal of confusion, not only for Catholics but for the entire nation. How can they advocate this 'unspeakable crime' and still practice their faith openly and without admonishment?
The pope and the American bishops have instructed Catholic politicians who advocate abortion and its subsidization that, in charity, they should not present themselves for the Catholic practice of communion. The archbishops of Denver, New Orleans, St. Louis and other cities have openly declared this. They have even named names in a few cases.
You won't find in the remarks on the KTUU website that Bob explained that vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani and 2004 presidential candidate John Kerry have all had to face this question: as Catholics, how can they continue to publicly defy this directive?
A Catholic politician has three choices: ignore it; obey it; or leave the Catholic Church.
But this is not only a reflection on the abortion issue but also on the meaning of religion and its just and necessary influence upon public policy. Mark Begich has not been asked this question, either by his favorable press people, or by the local Catholic Church.
Let's go to another issue, ignored or forgotten, but which Bob also raised.
About a week or 10 days before Mark Begich officially announced his intention to seek the Senate seat, but in an atmosphere of high and probable expectation, Holy Family Cathedral held a forum on homeless issues. As mayor of Anchorage, Mark was invited. The Cathedral realigned some of the altar furniture and Mark came in to sit over and participate in the proceedings.
Many Catholic institutions have begun to respectfully withdraw their invitations to Catholic politicians who advocate abortion. Obviously, not in Anchorage. As mayor, Mark might have a legitimate role in the question of homelessness, but that has not stopped Catholic universities and churches elsewhere to withdraw the invitations to similar politicians.
But, let's slice this pie a different way: What if Bob Bird, as Alaska Right to Life past president and board member, asked to be invited to a prolife rally at the Cathedral, to sit prominently at the altar steps, just before announcing his intention to run? What do you think would have been the response from the Catholic Church?
These are tough, but legitimate concerns. The press has seen fit to pass up these questions.
Bob Bird will not.

RASMUSSEN POLL ADMITS TO EXCLUDING BIRD!
Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2008
In a call to the New Jersey-based Rasmussen Report, it was admitted that this supposedly accurate poll failed to include Bob Bird of the Alaskan Independence Party (or any other U.S. Senate candidate outside of the Republican & Democratic Parties).
The reason given was that the exclusion was based upon queries to unnamed Alaska media sources.
The Alaska-based Ivan Moore poll has thrice denied that it was excluding Bird from its phone polling options. The Dittman Research group also has said that they include Bob in their own polls, but their results are not published for public review, in any case.
Bird, who has been campaigning vigorously all summer and fall throughout Alaska, has been receiving scores of reports from supporters statewide about telephone polls which only include Begich and Stevens as options. Whenever a recipient of the phone survey has asked to have Bird placed as their response, the answers from the pollster have gone, to the effect, "This is not an option on this poll."
Bird himself has received three such calls, and without identifying himself, was told during the last query, "This poll is not being conducted to assist Bob Bird's campaign."
This dynamic has serious implications, for several "gatekeepers" of televised debates have told the Bird campaign that it is necessary to cross a particular theshhold before an invitation is extended.
Bird received 5.5% of the primary vote on August 26 and in 1990 split the vote with Stevens on a 30/70 basis as a Republican in the primary.
The Rasmussen Report can be contacted at 732-776-9777.

Calls for an end to the IRS, Federal Reserve and federal ownership of Alaska's lands.
This Thursday Bob had the opportunity to face Democratic Senate candidate Mark Begich. Missing because of his ongoing trial was incumbent Sen. Ted Stevens.
Grateful to both the Juneau Chamber for the invitation and to Begich for visiting Bob's press conference two days earlier in Fairbanks, Bob identified Constitutional principles (or the lack thereof) as the #1 source of America's economic and moral problems.
Asking the members of the Juneau Chamber to temporarily forego the explanation of Constitutional principles but to recognize economic ones, Bob said "Tax cuts without commensurate spending cuts are just as destructive. We cannot continue to fund bailouts, welfare, warfare and health care and expect no reaction to come from the laws of the market."
Bird said that the infusion of money from the Federal Reserve will only continue to raise prices without the ability of salaries to keep pace.
When asked a question about a fair and just tax system, Begich himself said, "I am afraid to answer this question before Bob does," which brought a round of chuckles from the crowded luncheon audience.
Bird called for an investigation as to whether the 16th Amendment, which legalized income taxes, was ever properly approved. "Secretary of State Philander Knox said that the required number of states had approved the document, but in fact Kentucky, Oklahoma, Minnesota and possibly others never did. Additionally, many states did not proceed with the required three floor readings, as is mandated by parliamentary procedure.
"Not withstanding the 16th amendment's legitimacy, the definition of "income" as defined by the supreme court has been completely disregarded by lower tax courts, further strengthening the contention that the IRS is acting utterly outside the bounds of the law."
Bob also called for an adherence to the 10th amendment, which has never been repealed, yet is completely disregarded. Only in conjunction with Federalist #45, which promised that Congressional powers would be "few and defined" can the 10th be properly understood.
He said that there are already some 50 sponsors to the "Enumerated Powers Act", which would require every appropriation and legislative enactment to cite chapter-and-verse of Constitutional authorization.
Taking questions regarding southeast Alaska issues, Bird hit the theme that Article I, Section 8, clause 17 makes all federal property in Alaska unconstitutional with the exception of "forts, arsenals, magazines, dockyards and other needful buildings."
"Petroleum, timber and mining industries should stop trying to change erroneous opinions about Alaska in the lower 48, and we should strike the heart of the problem instead of nibbling at the edges", said Bird.
Both Bird and Begich were asked about the 9th circuit court as a villain in Alaskan issues. Bird again said that a re-drawing of a new district to include western states would be a mere band-aid. "Court opinions need not be enforced. The president is not required to. The Federalist Papers make this very clear. And Congress could utilize Article III, Sec. 2 to prevent unreasonable court rulings. This also applies to the troublesome social issues as well."
Bob's next scheduled debate is October 21 in Soldotna. See the calendar for the entire month.

DICK RANDOLPH, SCHAEFFER COX, RICK SIKMA ENDORSE BOB AT FAIRBANKS PRESS CONFERENCE
BIRD, BEGICH DEBATE AT CURLING CLUB EVENT - JUNEAU CHAMBER DEBATE THIS THURSDAY!
Legendary Fairbanks Libertarian Dick Randolph, one of only a few members of the Libertarian Party to win election to a state legislature, endorsed Bob Bird for U.S. Senate at the Fairbanks Curling Club press conference on October 7. Randolph was in the Alaska legislature in the late 70s and early 80s and helped spark both the Sagebrush and Tundra rebellion against federal ownership of lands.
Rick Sikma, a North Pole pastor who ran in the Republican primary this summer, also endorsed Bob. Schaeffer Cox, 24, who ran a strong campaign for the state house against incumbent Mike Kelly, winning about 40% of the vote, told the audience that the next generation needed Bob's guidance to untangle the mess the Baby Boomers created in social and fiscal policy.
Democratic candidate Mark Begich debated Bob for about 20 minutes as the two handled questions from the Fairbanks Chamber Forum, which had excluded Bird.
Both Bird and Begich will be debating at the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, held at the Moose Lodge in the Mendenhall Valley, at noon October 9.
Bob will be holding a major fundraiser at the Challenger Center October 10 in Kenai. On hand will be AIP Chairman Lynette Clark, whose husband Dexter is prominently featured in this month's issue of Alaska magazine. She will be on KSRM's Sound Off program at 9:00 AM October 10, 920 AM and available on the worldwide web at radiokenai.com.

Bob Bird to hold press conference at Fairbanks Curling Club 1:00 - 3:00 PM October 7
Despite valiant attempts to prevent being excluded by the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce from the October 7 US Senate forum, Bob Bird will be holding a press conference right next door to the Carlson Center at the Fairbanks Curling Club. Bob will answer the very same questions posed to the other congressional candidates, where he will have been taking notes during the forum.
Democratic candidate Mark Begich, who requested that Bob be included in the forum, will be standing alone on the dais because of Ted Stevens' trial ongoing in Washington. [Incumbent Congressman Don Young and Democratic challenger Ethan Berkowitz will also be answering the questions].
Bob will also introduce several prominent Fairbanks political figures who are going to endorse his effort for the U.S. Senate.
Bob earned 5.5% of the vote in the August 26 primary and 30% against Stevens (as a Republican) in 1990.

Bob Bird for Senate Committee
September 26, 2008
Fundraisers for Bob's U.S. Senate race are now in the final stage of planning. Bob is in Ketchikan and Juneau campaigning this weekend. Perhaps you saw his 1/4 page ads in the Anchorage Daily News [Section A] on Monday September 22 and Friday, September 26. This is how your generosity is being applied, and we are grateful!
Friday, October 3rd from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Fiori d'Italia in Spenard.
Call Ed Wassell at 245-5113 to attend or sponsor a table. This is a very affordable request of $50 per person, which includes a variety of buffet hors d'oeuvres. There will be other prominent pro-family Alaskans on hand as well. Live music is planned.
Friday, October 10 at the Challenger Center in Kenai, 6:30 PM, buffet supper.
Call 776-5898 or 252-9106 if you are on the Kenai Peninsula and want to help or attend. Live music is also being planned.
Bob's debate date for Fairbanks is still on hold . . . Ted Stevens will not attend because of the trial. Will Mark Begich be the only Senate candidate on the dais? It will look quite strange, especially with Bob in the audience taking notes for the press conference he will hold immediately afterwards. Mr. Begich himself has asked that Bob be included, and sent a letter to the Fairbanks Chamber.
In the meantime, here are the dates when Bob will be debating (or in a forum format):
- October 21 joint Kenai-Soldotna Chamber, location TBA, Noon
- October 27, Anchorage Chamber, location TBA, Noon.
- October 28, League of Women Voters, West High School auditorium, Noon
- October 30, Juneau Chamber

News from Bob Bird
Friends:
Lots of news this week . . . and the bad news is turning into GOOD news.
The Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, whose chairman drives around town with a Ted Stevens sign on his car, has decided to dis-invite me from the October 7 candidates' forum.
I anticipated these little tricks all summer. Mark Begich is sending a letter to the Chamber to ask for my inclusion. And, the Kenai-Soldotna Chambers (Oct. 21), the Anchorage Chamber (Oct. 27), the Anchorage League of Women Voters (Oct. 28), the Juneau Chamber (Oct. 30) have all invited me.
This made front-page news in Fairbanks this week. Please see Bob gets the Ron Paul Treatment . . . and follow the directions on how you can help get us back in.
And we are working on a Plan B, which in the end might even be better.
Watch for our quarter-page ads in the Anchorage Daily News for Monday, September 22 and Friday September 26.
We are going to Ketchikan and Juneau in a week, the first of at least two visits. Visit the 'Calendar' on the website to learn more.
Call my old friend Ed Wassell to be included in the October 3 fundraiser in Anchorage, at a fine Italian restaurant in Spenard. Details upcoming. State House candidate Gene Brokaw has already agreed to join us as a speaker, and possibly more.
Thank you for your prayers and financial support all summer. Now is when people are starting to listen to our message. Please keep visiting our website frequently and continue to give Rosemary and I all the help you can. She is working on a Kenai-area fundraiser, and you can call her any evening.
For freedom,
Bob Bird

Bird invited to Anchorage-area debates
Bob Bird, the Alaskan Independence Party candidate for the U.S. Senate, announces that the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce has confirmed an invitation to him in their October 27 debate, to be held at a downtown location yet to be announced.
Bird also accepted an invitation to the League of Women Voters/YouthVote'08 debates at West High School on October 28.
In addition, Bird will be appearing at the Kenai-Soldotna joint Chambers of Commerce debates on October 21 and the Juneau Chamber of Commerce October 30.
'I am grateful to those organizations who recognize that other voices need to be heard and considered. Alaskans are smart voters and they should be the ones to decide where their next leaders are coming from,' said Bird.
Bird was recently informed of a dis-invitation from the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, which has set off alarm bells among many third-party and independent advocates in Alaska.
'There were nearly 40,000 people who refused to vote for either Ted Stevens or Mark Begich in the August 26 primary,' said Bird, a 57-year old social studies teacher in Nikiski. 'This dis-invitation by the Fairbanks Chamber is an ill-considered move for their otherwise excellent reputation. Voters want to know if there is someone else to give their support to outside of the two-party stranglehold. I hope the Fairbanks Chamber reconsiders and gives interior voters the same chance that Alaskans will have elsewhere.
'The AIP has long been a part of the Alaskan political landscape and is the state's third-largest party in terms of registered voters. I hope that the memory of Joe Vogler, which is still very much alive in the interior, will prompt them to change their minds.
'Such an action only discourages the type of authentic democracy that is a part of our free traditions. In this incident, I stand with citizen-candidates of all political stripes, who offer their time and resources in the hope of effecting change.'

ANCHORAGE CHAMBER KEEPS BIRD IN OCTOBER 27 FORUM!
To its credit, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce forum welcomes third-party and citizen candidates. The Anchorage CC today confirmed that Bob was indeed welcome at their noon forum on October 27.
Perhaps this fact will help the Fairbanks CC to re-invite Bob!
Bob's debate/forum invitations, as they stand now on September 16, are as follows:
» KENAI-SOLDOTNA JOINT CHAMBER DEBATES: October 21
» ANCHORAGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: October 27
» LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS/YOUTHVOTE '08 DEBATES: October 28 at West High School
» JUNEAU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: October 30
C'mon Fairbanks . . . get Bob back on board!

Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Dis-Invites Bob from October 7 candidates' forum!
Call the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce NOW at 907-452-1105 and tell them that Alaskans deserve to know that there is more than just a Republican and Democrat running for the U.S. Senate. Ask for Lisa Cassino at ext. 106.
Also try 907-374-6706
Also, email: info@fairbankschamber.org
The media blackout regarding Bob's activities is now extending to the open debates and forums.
This summer, Bob was invited to the pre-primary forum. Then, in July, he was informed that he was disinvited because, being unopposed in the primary, it would not be necessary to hear his opinions.
However, he was told he would be invited for the general election forum.
Believing that there was more at play than this, Bob ignited help throughout the Fairbanks area and was re-invited within 24 hours, and participated in the pre-primary forum.
Now, the Fairbanks Chamber has pulled the same trick, this time saying that the Alaskan Independence Party doesn't qualify --- yet it enjoys party status with the Alaskan Division of Elections!
You can visit www.fairbankschamber.org.
When you call or email, be brief, be polite and be insistent.
Point out that Bob is included in the Kenai-Soldotna debates on October 21; the League of Women Voters on October 28 in Anchorage; and the Juneau Chamber of Commerce on October 30.
Why should Fairbanks be excluded from hearing this message?

"BOB BIRD RANKED #1 AMONG AMERICA'S INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES"
Anchorage, AK -- Alaskan Independence Party U.S. Senate candidate Bob Bird has been ranked the nation's top independent candidate for the 2008 election season by the Independent Political Report, a web-based watchdog of America's third-parties and independents.
A non-partisan though libertarian-leaning website which receives 5,000 hits per day, www.Independentpoliticalreport.com listed Bird as the #1 candidate on a list that featured independent candidates for state and federal office (with the exception of President) from across the country and the political spectrum. Several household names were listed below Bird, including left-wing anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (#3), running against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in California, and "Dr. Death" Jack Kevorkian (#6), who has declared as an Independent for Michigan's 9th District.
"It's certainly an honor to be recognized as the top candidate among independents" said Bird, "Though it will probably be the only time you see my name affiliated with either of those two," the conservative former President of Alaska Right to Life continued.
"More than half of Alaska's voters recognize the stranglehold the two-party system has on American politics and choose not to identify with either," said Assistant Campaign Manager Quincy Bird, "This list reaffirms what our supporters know to be true, that our campaign is very important to the landscape of American politics. We will be there as a clear-conscience, Constitutional option for Alaskans in November."
The listing on the website contained the following comments regarding Bird's bid for the U.S. Senate:
"[Bird] is truly an odd Bird for a politician — he's principled and intelligent. He's a lifelong pro-life leader who is vehemently opposed to a national abortion ban, citing the potential dystopian disaster that could ensue. He's a pro-gun activist who's smart enough to realize the D.C.-Heller decision was anything but a win for freedom. And he's courageous enough to challenge the voting public, rather than talking down to them, or assuming "they won't understand" the principled view."
The top five candidates on the list can be found at: http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2008/08/top-10-independentthird-party-candidates-of-2008-bird-pollina-sheehan-lead-the-way/

"Bob Fights for the Constitution at Fairbanks Candidate Forum"
With nearly all candidates for the U.S. Senate in attendance at the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Forum August 12, Bob took his turn with each candidate in giving limited, 45-second replies to the questions posed by the Chamber's board.
Bob used this opportunity to repeat the theme that 'the Constitution has been violated for generations and it is Congress' failure to abide by it that has brought us to the brink'.
While the incumbents thought that 'federal pork' was their badge of honor, Bob kept hammering that it brings 'federal dependency and control'.
The liberals simply promised 'honest' and corrupt-free pork, without understanding that violating the Constitution is corruption of the higher degree: for personal corruption is merely a drop in the bucket compared to the waste of war, regulations, inflation, judicial tyranny and loss of civil liberties.
Bob appeared at the Tanana Valley Fair over the weekend and met many Interior voters at the AIP booth run by party chair Lynette Clark.
Bob will be appearing at the Ninilchik Fair this Sunday and also singing with his barbershop quartet, 'The Peninsu-Lads'.

"THE WORLD KNOWS LITTLE OF ITS GREATEST MEN"
My late father was editor of his 1935 Beloit High School yearbook, and had that quote appear under his name.
In lectures to my students, I have often used that quote for one man: Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
You heard maybe that he died, and wondered 'What's all the fuss about?'
Thomas Paine would be proud, for indeed Solzhenitsyn's pen was mightier than the sword.
This, dear friends, was the man who exposed the brutality of the Soviet GULAGS, the death and prison camp system of Siberia. He did it by secretly passing his writings out to the free world. He forced Nikita Khrushchev to expose Stalin's crimes in 1956 with the book 'One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich'. He won the Nobel Prize with his incredible book 'The Gulag Archipelago'. Unable to kill, discredit or silence him, the Soviets exiled him. He went to Switzerland, then eventually the U.S., where he was snubbed by President Gerald Ford and Henry Kissinger in 1975.
But the American people and working class knew and appreciated his greatness. Asked to speak before the AFL convention in 1975, Solzhenitsyn exposed not only the brutality of communism, but the indifference and materialism of the west, and how this would ultimately lead to its own demise.
A man who was a former communist, Solzhenitsyn found his Christian faith inside the gulags. And he came to understand that suffering, when accepted as a gift from God, ultimately frees man. This great mystery is not easy to accept. In the press remarking his passing, you will seldom see references to his faith.
But Solzhenitsyn learned it, and so can all of us..
When the USSR dissolved in the early 90s, Solzhenitsyn was invited back into his homeland. His last stop in America was in Anchorage, before he traveled through Russia to re-learn his people and culture.
Friends, tonight when you hit your knees, don't forget to thank God for this great man of freedom.
And let us all be prepared to follow his example . . .
For freedom,
Bob Bird

"Government subsidies are the opiate of the people"
In 1990, I threw these words right back into the face of the author of the
Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx, but applied it to the economy.
This has been the case with Ted Stevens and Alaska. An economist recently
noted that about a third of Alaska's economy is dependent upon federal
spending, most if it in military expenditures, which are quite
constitutional.
But the other elements, such as the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere", are not.
Friends, federal dollars = FEDERAL DEPENDENCY and CONTROL.
I have maintained that this is NOT what Alaska should want, nor does it need
it. Our incredible potential, however, remains locked up in very
UN-constitutional national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, preserves,
recreation areas and monuments.
We cannot say it often enough. Article I, Section 8, clause 17 tells us what
the federal government is entitled to own: the District of Columbia, forts,
arsenals, magazines, dockyards and other needful buildings. Our statehood
act mandated, in complete violation of this clause, that we were to yield
over 60% of our land (and with it our future prosperity and resources) to
Big Brother/Uncle Sam.
Nibbling at the edges of this problem, by waiting for an energy crisis, by
trying to persuade public opinion in places like California and New York, is
useless, dicey and just plain STUPID.
With Ted Stevens on his way OUT, many people are wondering "Where is this
money going to come from?"
This is our moment to WAKE UP! Did we think Uncle Ted was going to live
forever?
Our campaign is a little like the scene in one of C.S. Lewis' books. A group
is sitting around a campfire, mesermized by some evil potion, unable to
think clearly, in a daze, and feeling benumbed. Along comes an individual
who stomps out the fire, awaking the entranced fellows, who get up and get
about their business.
An addict HATES the person depriving them of their "fix". He screams, rants
and raves. He thinks he can't live without that "fix", while his seeming
tormentor, in what is called "tough love", helps him hang on, knowing that
what the addict wants is really killing him.
When the crisis passes, the former addict, now understanding what his
supposed enemy was doing, usually reacts with gratitude, understanding, and
the incredible sense of FREEDOM that he now possesses.
Friends, let's get Alaska OFF federal addiction, take control of our own
economy and destiny, and walk into . . . FREEDOM.
Alaska First, Alaska Always,
Bob Bird

PRESS RELEASE
"Bob Bird wins Alaska Right To Life Endorsement"
Today Alaskan Independence Party Candidate for U.S. Senate, Mr. Bob Bird was endorsed by the Alaska Right to Life. Mr. Bird was also endorsed by Alaska Right to Life in his 1990 run for the seat currently occupied by Senator Ted Stevens garnering over 30% of the vote.
The Alaska Right to Life endorsement was keenly sought in the 2004 race between Senator Lisa Murkowski and AIP Candidate Jerry Sanders ultimately ending in the group issuing a statement endorsing neither candidate. Alaska Right to Life has over 50,000 supporters across the state and represents a substantial victory for Mr. Bird, a long time Pro-Life advocate instrumental to the formation and success of the Alaska Rescue Project.
Mr. Bird can be heard at the Fairbanks Carlson Center during the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Candidates forum on August 12, 2008. The Fairbanks Chamber recognizing the impact that a third party candidate like Mr. Bird has on the tight U.S. Senate race invited him to attend the event.

"The Constitution Solution"
The nightmare of rising fuel and food prices has hit Alaskans as hard
as an earthquake and tidal wave combined. The culprit is, of course,
the federal government and a Congress that wants to deflect attention
from its part in this disaster.
Bob Bird would fight to un-do the mess that Congress began with ill-conceived
and unconstitutional actions. This is straight-talk and strong medicine.
- End ethanol subsidies. Approximately 30 % of our corn crop is being diverted
towards supplementing gasoline. We should end this waste of taxpayer's dollars.
With corn returning to feed livestock and poultry, more than just breakfast cereal
will drop in price.
- End the Iraq War and our unconstitutional commitments overseas. Wars and
the garrisoning of over 700 bases demand enormous quantities of fuel,
and the market responds when a scarcity occurs. With our economy stretched
to the breaking point, it's time to bring our troops home and obey the Constitution.
Think of the savings!
- End federal control of Alaska's land and unreasonable environmental regulations
that stifle both onshore and offshore drilling. No other candidate
for the U.S. Senate will dare to breathe a word about Article I, Section 8, Clause 17:
the "forts, arsenals, dockyards, magazines and other needful buildings" clause.
- End worthless paper money. Yes, friends, inflation is part of the reason
behind rising prices, as we all know. People have come to accept this as part of
our economic life, but it does not need to be this way. Congress needs to audit
the Federal Reserve and end its control of our economy. We need a fundamental
wake-up call to make our currency once again "As good as gold".
Our problems did not hit us overnight and the solutions will take time. But let us
correctly identify the problem before we act.
And, as usual, that problem is: CONGRESS and its unconstitutional actions.
For freedom,
Bob Bird

CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
The U.S. Senate campaign for Bob Bird began Friday at the Paradisos Restaurant in Kenai with the Joe Rizzo Family Band entertaining the guests. On hand were people like Ozzie Osborne, the AIP's only elected official in the state (so far!), Alaska Broadcasting Hall-of-Famer John Davis (of KSRM), the Kenai Peninsu-Lads Barbershop Quartet and the AIP's Southern Chairman J.R. Myers.
Myers began by reading a resolution from the Constitution Party's National Convention held in late April in Kansas City, which endorsed Bob's candidacy with a unanimous floor resolution.
Bird then spoke for 15 minutes, discussing the imminent loss of freedom that Alaska and all Americans face with an unconstitutional, unchecked federal government. Particularly galling, said Bird, was the presence of a guard box at the entrance to the Nikiski Beach, where the Department of Homeland Security ordered a private firm to expend nearly a half million dollars to prevent people from . . . walking on the beach!
Calling for an end to the Iraqi War, an end to unconstitutional federal ownership of Alaska's lands, an end to a runaway judiciary which legislates over and above the will of the states and the people, and a return to an adherence to the Constitution, Bird then took questions for 30 minutes from the audience.
The next day in Anchorage, Bird announced the start of the campaign from the Inlet Towers Compass Room at 2:00 PM. Acting as MC was Bird's 26-year old son Mario, an Anchorage resident, who introduced campaign Treasurer Bob Welzel, a retired Marine Corps Lt. Colonel; Lynette Clark, the AIP chairman from Fairbanks; and Ed Wassell, Co-President of Alaska Right to Life.
The Anchorage speech is expected to be posted soon on YouTube.
